MQX East 2015 favorites … In no particular order!

The MQX 2015 show was wonderful!

Lots of eye candy!

Especially nice was the special exhibit by

"Sew Kind of Wonderful"

just love Jenny Pedigo's style of quilting

The Cathy Wiggens exhibit

"Evolution of an Artist - Fifteen years of Quilting"

was outstanding!

What Cathy can do with leather is just mind boggling!

Sadly no pictures as my phone lost charge

for no particular reason except they made me smile!

9 Patch Windmill by Birgit Schueller of Germany

features 1" squares, 9 sets of gradating values, 9 colors

arranged in different 9 patch block settings.

Love how the quilting reminds me of my

Spirograph drawing set I had as a kid!

Kathy caught the essence of falling Maple leaves

the quilting by Mara Novak 

was just outstanding and brought this quilt to life.

"Happy Daze"

using a Sue Garmen pattern and

lots of bright fun fabrics

this quilt no only made me smile

it made me Laugh!

I LOVED this quilt - it had such a Happy vibe!

will definitely have to put this one

on my quilty bucket list!

and the quilting by Flo Verge was… 

outstanding!

a Swoon pattern in SILK!!

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL

with incredible quilting

sadly I forgot to take a picture of the name card

so I can not give credit where credit is due.

But trust me it was a Beauty!!

Because the ocean has a special place in my heart

the beach is my "happy place"!

This quilt just sang to me!

"The End of the Line"

Inspired by the Oregon Coast and her fishermen husband and son

Joanne created and quilted this lovely piece on her Bernina!

Hawaiian Quilting with Nancy Lee Chong!

Last week I had the privilege of meeting Nancy Lee Chong,

co-owner of Pacific Rim Quilt Company.

Quilter's by the Sea of Portsmouth R.I. invited her to give an evening lecture and two workshops.

The evening lecture was both informative and inspirational …

This is the first quilt Nancy ever made!

It is a queen size!

Yes - you heard me ….

she was a non-quilter before beginning this beauty!

Here she is (sorry the picture is not the best)

with her Hawaiian Baltimore Album style quilt!

It was just lovely.

The next day was the "Hawaiian Appliqué" class which was fabulous!

Here is my "Plumeria"

It is a 20 inch block all positioned and pinned - ready for basting.

We learned all the tips and tricks to make a queen size!

The pattern "Rainbow over Lana'i (pineapple) (84" x84") 

came home with me for the future!!!

Wouldn't it look just spectacular in a deep blue / green!!??

I have made two other Hawaiian style quilts,

Horseshoe Crabs and Sand dollars

Blue Hibiscus (pattern by Pacific Rim Quilt Co.)

but there is nothing like taking a class from a master!

Nancy Lee Chong is a master for sure!

Rhododendron Needlers 2015 Quilt Show

The Rhododendron Quilt Guild always has a wonderful quilt show!

This year I entered my "Funky Garden on Red"

and to my surprised she won!

First Place Applique Bed

and a Vendors Choice Ribbon!

Evelyn is a sweetie!
Love her choice of Kaffee Fasset Fabrics
for the flowers.

"Happy Bird Houses" by Deborah McManus
Some quilt just make you smile and this is one of them!
This whimsical piece was just the cutest!

"As the River Flows"
was a challenge among friends
each was given a piece of blue river fabric
and they had to design a panel with the
river running through it!
A very impressive display!

"Boston Strong" by Abby Sullivan

Of course this quilt hit my heart,
since my daughter was there that day.

She was an Athletic Training student
volunteering as part of the medical team
at the finish line.
She is now on to grad school at
Texas A&M Corpus Christi!

I did have her jacket and id badge framed for her

Happy to say that Abby's "Boston Strong" Quilt
will hang on display at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Center
in Boston - where many of the marathon survivors
went for treatment and recovery.

Parasol Girl Block 2 done!

This week I finished by second block

of my Parasol Girl Quilt 

This is a sweet little block to make!

Next one is in shades of blue!

Traveling to Paducah ….

Not me!

But my Quilt is!!!

Yup received the awesome news the other day that

my quilt "Funky Garden on Red"

was accepted into the AQS Quilt Week in Paducah!

Way back in 2007 my sister and I went to the Paducah Quilt show …

it was a surprise birthday present from my husband!

(Yes he is definitely a keeper!)

I remember walking through looking at all of the

beautiful quilts thinking ….

"Boy wouldn't it be something to have a quilt displayed here"

Yup it's something alright!

SO although I won't see her hanging in Paducah,

just knowing she's there is thrill enough for me!

200th Post!!! and another storm for Boston!

Oh My 200 posts!

Not bad for a very part time blogger!

Yes  - Boston is bracing for another storm!

My poor little house is buried! 

Already have 2-3 feet in the yard,

so what's another foot of fresh snow!! 

Yikes!

The trees in the backyard are covered with snow…

so Beautiful.

This one is my favorite!

Last snow storm I completed this 1600 strip quilt.

Plan on donating it to the SCQG Comfort Quilts,

someone will love this quilt!

In planning for this snow storm I've pulled this fabrics!

The background is "October Afternoon" a flannel by Riley Blake,

Print fabrics are "Robotic" a Rebekah Ginda Design for Birch Fabrics,

and the solids and Moda Solids.

Such a yummy combination!

The perfect selection for the new little boy

my nephew and his wife will be having in May!

Now to find the perfect pattern!

That's today's task!

Snow starts in 6 hours!

Snow blower and shovels are ready!

Snow Days and hand stitching go together …don't ya think!

SO my house is buried under Inches FEET of snow!

Third week in a row of two snow days off from school!

With two more snow storms expecting to be coming into 

Boston and surrounding areas in the next few days … 

I could be getting LOTS of hand stitching done!!

Taking full advantage of the snow days I decided to … Yup….

Started working on another new project...

Along with the snow my Quilting ADHD has set in!

Let me back track a bit…

a month ago one of the nurses that I work with brought in

a quilt that was made by her Great Aunt.

A beauty Vintage Quilt!

looks to me like it may be from the 30's - but not sure.

It's in great condition, just a few little stains here and there

but no fabric fading!

Here is a close up of one of the blocks

they measure 18" x 16" - good size blocks

It is all hand quilted. 

Check out the whip stitch binding technique, 

below in blue thread!

I decided this quilt was just way to cute, 

so I traced the pattern,

and made my own templates

coming up with my very own CUTIE!

Background is a Moda Bella Solid in cream, 

the solids are mostly Moda Solids with a Kaffe Shot Cotton thrown in, 

and the flowered fabrics are mostly "Liberty of London" (purchased on Etsy!)

or "London Calling" by Kaufman.

Here is block two in progress …

Love the red polka dot fabric (from my Japanese import stash!)

pairs nicely with the "Liberty of London" fabric

This is going to be a fun one!!

But aren't they ALL!!!

Cross you fingers that Boston and surrounding areas 

won't be totally buried with more snow in the next week!!

But then again … 

it just means more time for cutie projects!

Ladies of the Sea Block #4

Finally!

This block was started way back in July

it wasn't a difficult block…

other projects just took over!

Another redwork quilt...

Finally finished putting together

my latest embroidery quilt.

The pattern is "Sun and Sea"

by Sandi Bard Designs

Nine embroidered blocks

stitched in Sulky 12 wt color 4014

The border fabric is "Bubble Shells"

from Tula Pink's Salt Water collection.

It features a way too cute Seahorse fabric

called "Ocean Ponies"

that works great for the corners!

Now it's time to decide on quilting choices!

A Super Bowl WIN and some nervous EPP!

What a GAME!

Congratulations FOUR time Champions

New England Patriots!

They did their Job!

I have been a Patriots fan for as long as I can remember!

Watching my Dad go to the games 

(he was a seasons ticket holder - 

from way back when they played at Harvard Stadium!)

the fever just rubbed off!

When he stopped going to the games

we would sit and watch the games together

yelling at the tv!

Happy Memories.

Last nights game was so nerve-wrecking

couldn't just watch

 so I nervously English Paper Pieced (EPP)

my 2 inch pentagons … 

and was able to complete

TWO blocks!

Now that's nervous energy!!

The pentagons are EPP and stitched into a ring,

the ring was appliquéd to the center blue square,

then the ring was appliquéd onto the background!

All hand stitched!

 The background fabric was trimmed away to remove the papers.

Have a total of 4 made, 5 more to go …

When do the Red Sox start playing!?
